Trip to Wittbülten on Spiekeroog (Group 6)

On 11th June 2014 we were driven by a fisher boat to the Island of Spiekeroog where we went for a walk later.
On the boat we were fished craps and other types of fishes and we analyzed the size and the numbers. We wrote the results on a paper with the help of the information paper and the guide. We also drove next to an island where we saw seals in the sand. We looked at the seals with binoculars.

When we arrived to the island we started to walk and to took water probes from different water-springs ( Sea, „Löschteich“, lake „Kurpark“  ). We were guided by the biologist Carsten.

He showed us the island and told us something about the village and the inhabitants. For Example, he said that the at first the village was in another part of the island but in consequence of the water and storms, the village had to move to another place. He explained to us that the dyke on which we were walking protect the village from the water because it is higher than the village.

The National Park and Sewage Works (Group 4)

Information about The National Park:

A National Park is a zone that is protected because there are a lot of animals and plants that are in dangerous situations.

The wadden is important as:
  • A habitat for seals and grey seals.
  • A center of migration birds
  • An habitat for plants
  • A home to the people living  and working here for centuries
  • A recreation area for millions of holiday makers.
The National Park is a very unique landscape, created by humans. The people let the nature go its own way. It was founded in 1986 and it is protected by a law. Everyone is welcome in the park, and you can find your own way on information boards. You can learn about your surroundings, so you can enjoy the nature without disturbing it.

The Tides:
The tidal flats are the areas covered by the sea at high tide and left exposed at low tide. The tidal flats make up two thirds of the Wadden Sea, at low tide, there is only a muddy desert.
In the water, there are lot of particles and lot of organic materials. There are lots of animals and plants living there. These animals eat the particles in the water and produce oxygen to the water. At the high tides, these animals can only survive for short periods. There are also birds who come and eat the animals in the water.
The tides are an important part of the National Park, and there are guided tours to visit it.

Visit to Nature & Technics Wilhelmshaven (Group 2)

On Wednesday 11th of June we went by bus to the school Nature & Technics Wilelmshaven, to do a technological project and we learned how to make a solar boat, and then we build it using renovable energies.

An important thing is that we took a weld machine and we welded  three cables to the solar cells and then we conected the solar cells to the engine with the propeler. We designed the boat on a computer which transmitted the data to a sawing machine. There was a hot cable which cut the boat perfectly. Then we fixed the small solar pannels and the engine in the boat. Later we did some races.
